There are many lakes in Louisiana. Some of the largest include the lakes along the Gulf of Mexico near the Texas border, these being Sabine Lake, Calcasieu Lake, Grand Lake, and White Lake.

The longest lake is the Toledo Bend Reservoir, a manmade lake on the border with Texas, part of the Sabine River valley. Catahoula Lake near the Mississippi River is the largest freshwater lake and supports the largest wet soil area on the North American continent.

The three major lakes are in southeastern Louisiana near New Orleans and the Mississippi border, these being Lake Maurepas, Lake Pontchartrain, and Lake Borgne (which is actually a bay of the Gulf). The much smaller lake south of the city is Lake Cataouatche/Lake Salvador that feeds into Bayou Perot and Bayou Barataria.
