Except is usually a preposition. (The verb accept is often confused with except.)
Where either accept (to receive or agree) or except (to exclude) is used, the past tenses are accepted (received) and excepted (left out).
Examples:
He accepted his diploma during the ceremony.
The church was excepted from the city property tax.
The past tense of "to occur" is occurred.
The past tense of the verb to meet is "met".
The past tense of the informal verb to wow (to amuse or amaze) is "wowed."
The past tense is "achieved." (a verb's silent E is dropped when adding -ed)
