I think that - Linda has died during the accident being 17 years old - except for the first time they met, all other encounters were FICTIONAL, means Thomas wrote them as a memorie - that would mean that the first part (Linda's point of view) was also WRITTEN by Thomas - Thomas kills himself in Toronto after the poet's meeting - NOT having seen Linda, because this encounter was just a fantasy - do you agree??
