How do you write a literature essay using PEEL structure?

It stands for point explain evidence (or analysis) link.

Give your point then explain it or why you want/need it. Your point should be something like "In *Chapter __/Act___ Scene___* of *name of book/play*, *author* makes us *like/dislike/envy/sympathise towards* *character*..."

Back it up with evidence (for proof) and include several quotations from the play/book.

Pick out specific words in your quotations and think about the connotations (linked words) of them. List the techniques the author has used, e.g. dramatic irony (the audience/reader knowing something that the characters do not), alliteration (words beginning with the same letter), similes (comparisons by using "as ___ as ___" or "like") or metaphors (saying something is something).

Link this back to the point you made in the first place.
