The Poky Little Puppy by Janette Sebring Lowrey is one of the 12 original Little Golden Books. The story is about a "poky little puppy" and his brothers, who dig under a fence and go up a hill. The poky little puppy never makes it to the top of the hill because he gets distracted with smells and noises. They do this several times and each time their mother tells them never to do it again. In the end, though, they learn their lesson.
The story is actually much, much better than that short summary!
