In a persuasive essay, the writer is trying to convince the reader to accept the reader's idea or point of view. It is like saying, you are trying to win the acceptance of the ideas you have. While in an arguementative essay the writer is trying to persuade the reader. It is the opposite in both cases.

Writing explanatory or persuasive essay is very common on English classes. The main difference between explanatory and persuasive essay is how the essay is formatted. Explanatory essay briefly summarize the thesis and structure the form of the essay around it order the main points that support the thesis. When writing a persuasive essay, the thesis will prove a point, which should change the reader's opinion and/or clarify the issue. Explanation answers the question: Why is that so; and an argument answers the question: How do you know. The process of causing someone to change their mind can be difficult. One have to think clearly about how you stand on the topic, plan you approach, use strong evidence, and understand the topic.

An explanation is a rationale in which the conclusion represents an accepted fact and the reason represents a cause of that fact. Its purpose is to help us understand how or why that fact occurs. Explanatory essay answers the questions of "why" and "how" something happened. It establishes a cause and effect relationship between two variables. Hence, the research explains. An example might be showing a relationship between the increased presences of police patrols in certain cities versus the reduction of crimes, did increased police presence have an effect on robbery crimes in banks and convenience stores.

An argument is a rationale in which the reason functions as evidence in support of the conclusion. Its purpose is to provide a rational basis for believing the conclusion to be true. On the other hand, persuasive essay is an argumentative paper trying to sway the reader's opinion towards the writers own. Persuasive essays can range from controversial topics such as abortion, to every-day opinions such as "McDonald is better than KFC." The main point of a persuasive essay is to convince the reader to think the same way the writer do.

All in all, the process of causing someone to change their mind can be difficult. One have to think clearly about how you stand on the topic, plan you approach, use strong evidence, and understand the topic.
