Near the very end of the book he gave all of his energy to Forest, Village, and the people. In one of the last sentences, it says Leader brought what was left of him, meaning his dead body. Leader gave him the name Healer as a name to remember him by. Also, when "the keening began," keening means a mourn for a loss. So, yes, he is dead.
