Only when "her" is used a possessive pronoun (shows ownership, e.g. her shoes).

When not used before a noun, it is an objective pronoun (e.g. I am talking to her).

Defining "hers" is more problematic. Since it is used without a noun but refers back to one, it is usually not considered an adjective.
