Isn't is a contraction for IS NOT. NOT IS NOT A VERB! My sixth grade English teacher instilled that into my head. NOT IS AN ADVERB! Here is the answer ypu probably want: auxiliary

Is is always an auxiliary or linking... never a main verb... it's impossible. Therefore, Isn't is one of those types+an adverb
