The only time you need to ensure that "world" has a capitalized "W" is at the beginning of a sentence or if it is part of a company/organizations name. "The world is a scary place." "You are in a world of trouble!" (excuse the cliche) "The World Bank announced new funding this week."

The stylebook of the Associated Press spells the word as actually two words: Web site, with "Web" capitalized because it is part of the proper noun "World Wide Web." However, this usage has begun to gain less prominence outside of journalism.

ex. Google is an internet sensation.

ex. The Internet was founded by some smart people.
