A French soldier during the French expedition in upper Egypt fell into the hands of the Arabs. When the Arabs fell asleep, he got himself free. His horse died on the way. He saw a hill and a cave in it. He entered it and fell asleep. His sleep was troubled by an extra ordinary noise. It was of a large lioness. First, he thought to kill her, then he preferred to wait till morning. The lioness awoke and looked at the soldiers. The soldiers passed his hand on her whole body. The lioness waved her tail happily. He came out of the cave but the lioness did not let him go any farther. The soldier developed feelings of love for the animal. One day the lioness caught hold of his leg gently. The man thought, she would devour him. He plunged his dagger into her throat. He saw her dying, still looking at him without anger. Misunderstanding had brought out his tragedy.
