Cheating is bad for a number of reasons. Of course one that is stated a lot is the lying factor. That might be considered a religious issue, though, so even though to many it is important, let's move on to other reasons.
The entire purpose of tests is to measure what has been learned in a class in a given time period, at least if it is a test given in school. Cheating might result in a better grade, but it also distorts the measurement of what has been learned. Okay, so maybe that does not matter to someone who would consider cheating, but let's consider this:
Much of what is learned in one grade is built upon in the following grade. If you don't learn what you are being taught in grade 1, you will not have the knowledge you need to learn what is taught in grade 2, then grade 3, and on to each grade of school. This is especially true in subjects like reading, English, and math.
Let's imagine that you get through school by cheating, which is not probable, but let's just pretend. At some point, it is likely that you will need to get a job. At least some of the skills you didn't learn because you cheated will be needed on a job. If you haven't learned them, the person you will have successfully cheated the most will be yourself. At least some of the skills that you considered irrelevant in school will be extremely relevant when landing a good job. Unfortunately, while in school we don't know which skills will be needed.
Okay, so it's not likely that anyone is going to cheat on that scale, but cheating at all is robbing yourself of the knowledge that is being tested. That might just be the knowledge you need to be successful in the following grade. It might also be the knowledge you needed to learn for a better life in the years to come.
Again, there are no good excuses for cheating on tests. In fact, there are NO excuses for cheating on tests! Pay attention in class, do your homework and turn it in on time, ask questions if you don't understand something, and study for tests and you won't need to ask about excuses to cheat. Learn what you are being taught in school. You never know when you will need the knowledge in real life.
