Some examples of a point of view are first person point of view, second person point of view, and third person point of view.

A first person point of view is told from the view of the writer or narrator. "I went to the market."

Second person point of view is told to the person who is reading. "You went to the market."

Third person point of view is told about another person as if watching from above. "He went to the market."

i believe there are 3 types of points of views.

  • 1st person singular is when you are narrating yourself. Words included are usually [me, I, my, etc..] "I was walking down the street when all of a sudden..."
  • 2nd person singular (rarely used) is when somebody is narrating at you. Words indluded are usually [you your you're yours your's] The most common example of 2nd person is recipies when the YOU is assumed. "(You) take two eggs and separate out the yolks..."
  • 3rd person singular is when another character or outside person is narrating the event(s). Words included are usually [they, her, she, them, etc..] "He was walking down the street when all of a sudden..."
  • 1st person plural. "We were walking down the street when all of a sudden..."
  • 2nd person plural in English is the same as singular (you vs. you) unless you use the colloquila y'all.
  • 3rd person plural "They were walking down the street when all of a sudden..."

Omniscient -- the narrator has a god-like perspective, can see everything and knows what everyone is thinking.

Limited Omniscient -- the narrator still has god-like perspective but can only see inside one person.

Objective -- the narrator is simply a 'fly on the wall' doesn't know what anybody is thinking, only sees what is going on.

here's an example. "Do you like carrots?" I ask you. "No, I think they're gross!" You say. "Well I like them a lot." I respond. You point of view on carrots is that you think they're gross. My point of view is that I like carrots a lot. It's like a perspective or an opinion.

In literature, point of view is how the story is told - who the narrator is:

First person point of view is "I" or "we" - second person is "you" and third person is "he" or "she" or "it" or "they."

A story can be told in first person point of view (the narrator is a character in the story), third person omniscient point of view (the narrator is not a character in the story and provided insight to most characters' thoughts and feelings) or third person limited point of view (the narrator is not a character in the story and provides insight only into one character's thoughts and feelings).
