FUBAR which is pronounced Foobar, comes from the movie, "Saving Private Ryan". To translate FUBAR here would mean posting profanity. Profanity is not allowed on this site.

A more public-place friendly translation is "Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition."An alternate translation might me "Faulty Useless Broken And Redundant" - etymology unknown. FUBAR is from the 1986 movie Tango and Cash.

If you mean with fubar "... beyond all recognition", then a literal German translation would be... not really feasible. But the gist would be "komplett im Arsch".

Another possibility is that American WWII soldiers heard Germans saying "furchtbar" (=terrible, horrble, awful), and they they nicknamed it "fubar".

Believe it or not it is also the name of a hand held demolition tool made by Stanley. They say it stands for Functional Utility BAR.
