The CCNA certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists. In early 1980's, Len Sandy Bosack, a married couple who worked in different computer departments at Standford University, were having trouble getting their individual systems to communicate. So, in their living room they created a gateway server that made it easier for their disparate computers in two different departments to communicate using the IP protocols. In 1984, they founded cisco systems. The first product the company marketed was called the Advanced Gateway Server (AGS). later Mid-Range Gateway Server (MSG), the Compact Gateway Server (CGS), the Integrated Gateway Server (IGS)and the AGS+. The exams are : Exam: 640-811 : Interconnecting of Cisco Networking Devices. Exam: 640-821: Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies. There are CCNP, CCIE, CCDA, CCDP, CCSP .
