Empathy, in itself, really has no disadvantages. It can be a very life enhancing experience for those who practice and understand it; allowing insight into the heart and mind of another. The one drawback is that on occasion, when you do not employ your instinct, you can be duped by those who will actively seek empathy from you for their own gain. That gain will be in the form of control, be it emotional, situational, or structural. But in the long run, those who do so will show themselves and you will learn not to be empathetic to them,
