Some people(not me) don't like vegetables. Pretend I am an example of someone who hates vegetables who also hates wasting food. After a BBQ I hosted, there's plenty of salad left over. I pick it up and put it in another container in the fridge. Waste not, Want not!

It just means that you don't want to waste it, but you don't want it either.
