Dana losing her arm symbolizes her leaving a part of herself behind in the 1800's. She was affected by her life on Rufus' farm and so were the people that lived there. It is a physical representation of her mental state. The part of her stuck in the past will alter her future and make her life drastically different. Her experience has changed her.

∙ 12y agoDana lost her arm in Kindred in her last trip from the 1800s. After she kills Rufus, Nigel turns the corner and Dana panics. Her panic sends her to 1976 with her arm meshed to the wall- right where Rufus was grasping it. She pried and pulled and ripped her arm from the elbow joint to the hand right off. She lost it as a sacrifice for all of the slaves and families she separated by Rufus' death.
