MKS stands for Metres Kilograms Seconds. It is another way of saying metric. All base units are measured in these basic quantities or derived from them. For example a forece of 1 newton is that required to accelerate a mass of 1 kilogram at a rate of 1 metre per second per second. 1 joule is the energy required to displace a force of 1 newton through 1 metre. 1 watt is the energy flow necessary to dissipate 1 joule of energy every second.
