A lawyer is someone who studies the law. An attorney is someone who is licensed to practice law.

So all attorneys are lawyers, but not all lawyers are attorneys. If a lawyer doesn’t have a license he or she is not an attorney. That was a very good question,

(Just an FYI - attorney is spelled with an “ey” at the end.)
