The meaning of quasi-government is an agency having some features similar to a government agency; however, it is not owned or operated by the government. Most non-governmental organizations such as the American Cancer Society fall under this category because it receives private funds in addition to government funding, and is not ran by a government official.

Quasi means resembling or having some but not all the features of.

Autonomous means self-governing; independent; subject to its own laws only.

Therefore the term quasi-autonomous usually refers to something which is like something else and does the same sort of things but it is not the same and therefore it is independent.

You might have heard of the term (quango or qango) quasi-autonomous non-governmental organisation. This refers to a public body which carries out similar duties as the government, it is funded by tax payers but not controlled directly by central government.

Examples include the Environment Agency, Road Service, Regional Development Agencies, national galleries and museums, regulators such as Ofcom.
