It's the prefix for 100, like kilo- is the prefix for 1000. It's not used a whole lot. The only example I can think of is hektare, which is usually spelled hectare in English. It is 100 ares, where 1 are = 100 square meters. (That makes a hektare/hectare 10,000 square meters, about two and a half acres.)
