The word 'kewl' is an alternate slang spelling for cool. Kewl and cool, in this context, mean the person likes or agrees with something. The word cool began in the 1960s among those who were 'hip', in the know socially, etc. The spelling of kewl began to be used as an alternate, mainly just to be different, in the 1970s. Note that not just popular kids said these words, but anyone in any group or loners as well. Here are examples:

Speaker 1: "He got his wheels." (a car)

Speaker 2: "Ah cool man."

Speaker 1: "Hey man, she's cool, a good looker."

Speaker 2: "Yeah she's hot."

Most people picked either cool or kewl and stuck with only one when they needed to spell the word.
