The usual expression is "Your reputation precedes you." "Precedes" means "goes before". It is used when you meet a person that has a reputation that is so good , or so bad, that you know about them already. It's usually said in ironic situations.

"Supersede" means to replace with a better version of something. "The Mark IV has superseded the old Mark III" Perhaps by substituting this word for "precedes" in the saying, the person is implying that the legend that has been created around this person has become so great that it now has a life of its own and the real person is no longer important. Such a thing is not uncommon.
