Manuscript guidelines offer formatting suggestions so that editors can quickly and easily read through manuscript submissions. According to the guide, Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript by Chuck Sambuchino, a submission should be formatted as follows:

1 inch margins on all sides

Incorporate a title page (but don't number that title page)

All other pages should have a header that includes your name, the title of your work and the page number

Start each new chapter on its own page, with the the text starting about a third of the way down the page

The chapter title and number should be in all caps, like CHAPTER 4 - THE MYSTERIOUS FOOTPRINTS

The text of that chapter should start 4-6 lines before the chapter title

Indent paragraphs

Double space the whole manuscript

Use 12 point type

Using these guidelines ensures that your manuscript won't be rejected because of poor formatting.
