What is a cryptoliberal?

Well, I looked around the web at the places where it is talked about and what crypto-liberal (usually hyphenated) seems to mean is a person that says he or she is a conservative, but is actually secretly a liberal. They are complaining about people who claim to be Republicans who are actually pro-choice, or this one hunter guy who got kicked out of the NRA for saying that military assault rifles were inappropriate for hunting prarie dogs.
