It can also refer to the followers of some benign and some dangerous individuals who found social/political and/or religious movements. Jim Jones (People's Temple), David Koresh (Branch Davidians) and Fred Phelps (Westboro Baptist Church) are three of the dangerous ones that come to mind. Of the three, only Fred Phelps is living.
