To "configure" something is to arrange or set up your work/site/machine/app so that it is ready to work. In marketing your display has to be ready to work, and most importanly, be what the customer likes. To "misconfigure" something is when your item is set up and ready to work, but it just doesn't get the job done to your satisfaction. You then have to work with it some more until you are satisfied with the results.
