If you're looking for a list of replacements for linking verbs then you've come to the right place! Linking verbs can get in the way of good writing, and I know exactly how you feel. Last year, I took a literature class, and my teacher's number one rule for our essays was that they were to contain absolutely no linking verbs at all. That is when I sat down and created my own list of replacements for common linking verbs, and now I'm going to share them with you! Enjoy my list, and good luck getting an A+ on your next essay!  P.S. I also included examples on how to include the replacements in your essay. Replacements for linking verbs: •Is (my personal pet peeve): remains, continues, currently, right now •Has: once, recently, in the past, a while ago •Had: (see has) •Have: currently own, I am currently working on, recently accomplished a/the/etc.... •Did: accomplished, completed, achieved •Was: (add an -ed to the is list) •Be: continue to remain Examples on how to incorporate the replacements in your essay: •Is: If the original sentence was "Bob is a nice neighbor.", then the changed sentence would be "Bob remains/continues acting like/currently remains/right now remains a nice neighbor.". •Has: If the original sentence was "She has owned money." then the changed sentence would be "She once owned/she recently owned/in the past she owned/a while ago she owned money." •Have: If the original sentence was "I have an idea.", then the changed sentence would be "I currently own/I am currently working on/I recently accomplished an idea.". •Did: If the original sentence was "I did my work.", then the changed sentence would be "I accomplished/I completed/I achieved my work." •Be: If the original sentence was "I will be prom queen.", then the changed sentence would be "I will continue to remain the prom queen." Thank you for reading my answer.
