Lying is the act of attempting to make someone believe something that is not so. One can lie by simply stating something that is not so in such a way that makes it believable.

Take the situation in which you failed your driving test. This method would mean saying something like,

"I passed my driving test today! I can't wait until I get a car to drive!"

The more artful method is to make something seem a way it is not by framing it in such a way that it seems so. Using this method one might say,

"I took my driving test today! I can't wait until I get a car to drive!"

Bad liars speak untruths but do not deceive.

Good liars speak untruths and deceive.

The best liars speak the truth and deceive.
