A sweet piece of fruit to eat is an apple.

NB. The indefinite article 'an', is used immediately prior to a common noun that begins with a vowel (a,e,i,o,u,) or the letter 'h'. e.g. 'an horse'.

Other wise use 'a' as the indifinte article. e.g. 'a dog'.

NNB The definitive article is 'the', and is used in all cases prior to a common noun.

NNNB For proper nouns, and pronouns, the articles are never used. e.g. we do neither say 'The New York'. , nor 'the he/she'.
