The work done in a synthesis/response essay is two-fold. First, you must gather several references on the topic chosen or assigned. Next, discuss how each of the references relate to the topic, and then how they relate to each other. At the end of the essay, you will pick a stance and argue it, either addressing the viewpoints from your previous references, or addressing another facet of the topic altogether, using outside sources to help make your point.
