What lesson do parents think their children will learn if they take up their phone because they got low grades on a report card?

By twentieth century meanings, a "parent" is someone promoted to their level of incompetence. Later in the C21, we will have parents who psychologically and educationally know about child-care and child development. In the meantime, introduce your parents to modern technology. Talk and fax school work over the house phone. Team-work electronically was impossible when these "parents" were created. Teamwork each answer with your fellow students. Show the smartphone email/ sms on another students phone. If you have a Windows-mobile smart-phone, put dictionaries, a thesausus, the chemical periodic table, the bible, a calculator, alarm clocks, timetables, and encyclopedias on it. One day you might be able to then educate your parent how to do their job better.
