Bullying is what in the Bystander?

A bystander is a person who just stands by and watches. They take no action to put a stop to the bullying. They are actually making the bullying worse because it appears to the person who is being bullied that everyone agrees with the bully's actions. Being an Upstander is a better choice. This is a person who steps in and puts a stop to the bullying. Most bullies will not take on two or more people at one time. This takes a very self confident person to be an Upstander.

What is a bully upstader?

A bully 'upstander' is someone or a group of people who stand up against bullies and it could be the victim themselves or a group of students that protect the victims from bullying. The ways of 'Upstanders' are to befriend the victim and guide them into getting help and reporting the bully while the 'Upstander' is there to listen and help where they can. This can be done quite well with a group of students who are willing to 'upstand' for a victim of bullying. It is important for 'upstanders' to let their other friends know or other students what it is all about and to join in. In every school there are only a handful of bullies and more students that do not bully. Teens who are 'upstanders' encourage 'upstanders' to pick out the students that are alone often such as between classes or at lunchtime and to join them so they feel less alone and not deserted from other students and if necessary walk them too and from school for their safety sake. Also if there is a new student who is trying to blend in and make friends the 'upstander' should be there to introduce themselves and show them around school and to be there as a friend. If there is no anti bullying program in your school then talk to the principal to ask if a program could be developed. If the principal does not want to get involved then have group meetings with parents as to what the teens want and force the school to bring in an anti bullying program. It is important to be knowledgeable about bullying so hit the Internet to learn more about it and make an effort to talk to the victims of bullying 'always go to the horse's mouth.' If students pass a victim being bullied then they are just as guilty as the person or group of persons doing the bullying and it is everyone's responsibility to pitch in and end bullying for good. Stand together and make schools and workplaces a better place to be!
