A port city in Labanon, Tripoli has had many names. The Phoenicians called it Athar, and later Arabic names were Tarabulus, Atrabulus, and Tarablus al-Sham. A current alternate name is Al-Fayha'a ("spreading smell", referring to the scent of orange blossoms in nearby orchards).
