Here's a basic summary of the book:
Sixteen year old, Ethan Wates, lives in the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina. Aside from a Civil War battle fought over a hundred years ago, nothing ever happens in Gatlin. That is, until beautiful Lena Duchannes moves to town to live with her uncle, Macon Ravenwood, the town shut-in and suposed lunatic. When strange dreams and events start occuring, Ethan finds himself drawn to Lena, and together they uncover a past about their relatives and a magic so dark it has cursed Lena's family for generations. Ethan learns Lena's true identity, a spell Caster, and dedicates himself to helping her find a way to break her familiy's curse. When her mother, Sarafine, starts using her dark magic to hurt Lena, the two teens use all their strength to defeat her, even if it costs a life.
