Depends on what house they are in. Ravenclaw students are taught that intelligence is best, and that nothing else matters; that you can always win with knowledge. Hufflepuffs are taught the whole 'due unto others' stuff, and that if you're nice to someone, they'll be nice to you back. Slytherins are taught that you need to be powerful, no matter if your nice or not. And most believe that you have to be a pure blood to be the most powerful (which is not true; look at Harry and Voldemort). And Gryffindors are taught that bravery, chivelry, and smarts will get you the furthest in life. Each head of the house teaches their students differently.
