Chivalry was an ancient code during the medieval times, that applied to Knights with rules like always save a damsel in distress, and things like that.

What has the word chivalry come to mean in today's world?

With a tear in my heart, I must pen my opinion and offer "nothing" as the common answer. However in small enclaves throughout the United States you will still today find men who follow the ancient code of chivelry. One such group which comes immediately to mind are the US Army Soldiers, whose sentinels "stand the vigil" and guard the tomb of the unknown. http://www.arlingtoncemetery.org/ceremonies/sentinelsotu.HTML Chivelry is not only to be instilled into the hearts of men. A man can provide honors to a woman in many ways. However to do so sucessfully, whether in public or private, intentionally, with forthought and common sense requires the attention and cooperation of the women being honored. I refer with great adoration to the Arlington Ladies. http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/anc-lady.htm Today, gender identification and personal social preferences have confused the original concept of chivelry and thus changed the appearance of the Paladin forever. It is true that boys and girls are still being taught these old ways, but alas it is no longer in the home. I find it sad that the ones who once had the greatest interest in developing a boy into a man and were once charged by society to give him the required practice in this art have turned a blind eye. Who else is better qualified to teach a boy how to relate and interact with women than his own mothers, aunts and sisters? The same is true about his interaction with men than his fathers, uncles and brothers? You may have noticed that I have referenced a particular group of men and women which you may have never heard of. Imagine how they learned to deal with these specific social issues. Why? Because they understand what honor is and know where valor sleeps. I think you, as a citizen, should know too. Kriter.

What sort of wicthes and wizards are the professors at Hogwarts trying to mold?

Depends on what house they are in. Ravenclaw students are taught that intelligence is best, and that nothing else matters; that you can always win with knowledge. Hufflepuffs are taught the whole 'due unto others' stuff, and that if you're nice to someone, they'll be nice to you back. Slytherins are taught that you need to be powerful, no matter if your nice or not. And most believe that you have to be a pure blood to be the most powerful (which is not true; look at Harry and Voldemort). And Gryffindors are taught that bravery, chivelry, and smarts will get you the furthest in life. Each head of the house teaches their students differently.

What was the time period for the middle ages?

AnswerMedieval Times. "Medieval" and "Middle Ages" are both from Latin medium aevum. AnswerIt is also called the Dark Ages, especially the Early Middle Ages (476-1000). MoreThe Middle Ages are between the Fall of Rome to the Renaissance. Italian Renaissance historians Leonado Bruni and Flavio Biondi created a three-part division of the history: Classical, Middle Ages, and Modern. AnswerThe Middle Ages are also called Age of Faith, because the main questions of the age centered on the question of religion. These questions included relationship of church and state, the unity of the Christian Church, evangelism, and the Christian reaction to Islam. The Middle Ages are divided into sections by historians as follows:The Early Middle Ages, also called the Dark Ages, from 476 to 1000 AD.The High Middle Ages, from 1000 to 1300.The Late Middle Ages, from 1300 to 1453.The dates vary to some extent with according to the historian, with the beginning dates being 400, 410, 476 or 500, and the ending dates being 1400, 1453, 1492, or 1500.The part called the Dark Ages was called so because there are few writings extant from the time. There are links below.
