EISTEDDFOD- comes from a welsh origin meaning to entertain an audience by a number of theatrical ways. Now days, there are many types of EISTEDDFODS. examples of which could be; a Ballet eisteddfod, a speech and drama eisteddfod, an instrumental eisteddfod, a singing eisteddfod, and many others.
HOW IT WORKS:
I have been in a few speech and drama eisteddfods so i know how it works. usually many people come from different schools or places to compete. The competitor would recite their poem, sing their song or play their music, depending on what type of eisteddfod it is. this would be in front of an audience and a judge which can also be know as an adjudicator, examinor or judge. after the competitor has finished their peice, another competitor would come and do their bit and so on. at the end the judge would comment on all competitors and award places (1st, 2nd, 3rd etc etc)
eisteddfods can vary alot and is different everywhere but this is the overal gist of it. sol i hope it help and i wish you luck in any future eisteddfods. :)

The National Eisteddfod of Wales dates back to 1176 when it is said that the first Eisteddfod was held. Lord Rhys invited poets and musicians from all over Wales to a grand gathering at his castle in Cardigan. A chair at the Lord's table was awarded to the best poet and musician, a tradition that continues today in the modern Eisteddfod.
