House keeping is an old term that refers to the general maintenance of the household. The tasks were traditionally performed by females and included cleaning the house (sweeping, dusting, picking up), cleaning laundry, washing the dishes and cooking.

In the United States, "house keeping" is the term for the crew of individuals (who are still predominately female and often of non-Caucasian ethnic heritage) who are responsible for the daily cleaning of hotel rooms. Their tasks include vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, remaking the bed and changing out the used towels and sheets for clean ones.
