Many times, when someone is writing in a journal or a diary, they do not expect for anyone else to read it. That means that the writer might include things that are completely secret, things that they wouldn't normally write about or speak about. Sometimes journals and diaries are more honest, because the person doesn't need to hide anything or lie about anything. But, that's not always true.
