I disagree with the above answer. I think that it is possible under most circumstances for a lawyer or a mathematician to be an Artist, in the medium they work in. First, you need to ask what it is an artist does. It does not matter what kind of artist, painter, sculpture, musician, or even mathematician. As I see it, the artist puts life into something. A tube of paint becomes a beautiful landscape. Sounds become Music. Lumber becomes a house. A block of stone becomes a sculpture. So it would be logical to say that the opposite of an Artist is someone who takes life out of things. My best choice would be a Soldier. Soldiers and war brings death, destruction and fear. An artist brings joy, and purpose and enlightenment.
I disagree with the paragraph above this...an artist doesn't always give joy or give purpose to his/her art...and I believe that death, fear and ,even, destruction can bring enlightenment, so the above's argument is invalid. With all that being said, I don't think there is an opposite for artists. Even a person who puts a limitation to everything can be an artist, everything can be considered art...that is why there is no such thing as an opposite of artist.
