The are geographical/political differences depending on where you live. In most countries where they use the Gregorian Calendar and the two-letter abbreviation for months, it follows this order: JA, FE, MR, AP, MA, JN, JL, AU, SE, OC, NO, DE. This common choice is based on the first occurring sound or syllable. In fewer instances, it is like this: JA, FE, MA, AP, MY, JU, JL, AG, SE, OC, NO, DE. Note how "March" becomes MA, and May becomes MY (the first two letters in the word that haven't been used previously). This usage is very rare, and usually looked on as an error, rather than a variation.

Many countries don't use the Gregorian Calendar at all, for political or religious reasons, and utilize a dating system based on a completely different history. Some people in China still use an older system that sets the year at approximately 4711 right now in 2013 A.D., but by and large they (and most others) have switched to the Anno Domini (AD) Gregorian calendar, since it is used by most countries for business purposes.

There is none. Month abbreviations are commonly three letters ... since "May" has but three letters, that is what is used. June would be JUN, July JUL, April APR and so forth.
