A "cult" is usually a religion or spiritual tradition that is not approved by some other, larger or stronger religious authority. Certain Christian institutions, such as the Roman Catholic Church or American Evangelicalism or Christian publishing organizations, tend to regard their own perspectives as the only correct and authoritative options. These institutions then warn their members and anyone else who will pay attention that the groups outside their approval are dangerous.

Consequently, there will always be some group given the label "cult" by some other group.
