But when A former slave comes and takes Elijahs best friend cooter's money everything goes wrong. Cooter spent his whole life collecting money to buy his family out of slavery. As of Elijah, he was born into freedom. In the middle of the book, Elijah meets a kid named Sammy at the carnival tent. Sammy tells Elijah that Elijah from chatham will kill Elijah from Buxton just because his name is Elijah. Read the book to see if Elijahs problems work out.
