A degeneration of the incidence of acts to improve the state of a cause or community through charity or volunteerism. Most often due to a lack of religious, moral and/or humanistic urgency and existing activity.

Example: Over the years, as the town prospered and need became less visible, philantrophy set in and social service organizations began to be starved for support.
