The term doesn't necessarily have a stable meaning, but it generally expresses both a wish to end violence, and also a rejection of the connotations of the word "nonviolence." Antiviolence indicates an opposition to structural violence - particularly along gender, race, and economic lines - and not only the more visible 'personal' violence between individuals. "Nonviolence" often assumes that by avoiding the violence that already exists, and by modeling your own peaceful personal behavior, the larger-scale "cycles of violence" will somehow be reduced; antiviolence tends to insist that only by actively engaging violence can we end it.
