A mestaba is an ancient Egyptian tomb form, raised, rectangular, used to be made from mud bricks. Body is buried beneath it. But it also appears in some US cemeteries, including the one which occasions my researching it, Pittsburgh's Homewood Cemetery. Needless to say the mestaba I saw there is granite, not mud brick.
