Absolute morality generally applies to the idea that there exists an objective moral truth, which may be outlined by a philosophy (e.g. utilitarianism), a religious text, or an authority figure. Relative morality applies to the idea that moral judgment, at its core, is subjective and a product of individual or cultural taste that may shift due to circumstance.

Relative morality: Whether something is right or wrong depends on the local custom. In some cultures, gambling is viewed as a wrongful activity, whereas in others it is the main way that charities make money, and is therefore considered to be virtuous. In some cultures, polygamy is a way that the society can ensure that all women have the means to live, and in others it is viewed as an exploitation of women.
