The difference can be simply expressed in the following way: a "didactic" approach is overly preachy or unnecessarily eager to instruct, while a "pedantic" approach focuses on unimportant details as though they were quite important. Hence, it is possible for one to be both "didactic" and "pedantic" at the same time.
