IT MEANS SUN

THE MEANING OF ADITYA

The word Aditya is used as a synonym of 'Sun'.

However, the description of Aditya in Rig Veda clearly proves that it has nothing to do with the Sun.

The Sanskrit word 'Aditya' is formed by the merger of two words 'Adi' (Beginning) and 'Antya' (End). Thus, Aditya is the Hindu god of timing.

The seven Adityas are the same as the seven basic Hindu gods.

They are,

1. Indra - god of dreaming

2. Shakti - god of illusion

3. Brahma - god of creativity

4. Vishnu - god of stabilization

5. Shiva - god of determination

6. Shani - god of status alteration

7. Yama - god of compulsion.

The seven gods are, in fact, seven stages in which an idea is converted into an action.

Aditya, being the god of timing, selects the best god for solving a problem by timing his interference during the seven-stage progress of the activity.

Aditi, the consort of Aditya, selects the approximate godfrom which stage Aditya selects the best god.

In later stage of Hinduism, timing was replaced with the easier alternative, time. Thus, Aditya began to mean Sun, on which time is based.

Thus, Aditya is the Hindu god of timing.
